Jewellery Remodeling

What is jewellery remodeling?

Jewellery remodeling (also called jewellery redesign or jewellery resetting) is the process of transforming an existing piece of jewellery into something new. This can involve updating the style, resetting stones, melting and reshaping metal, or combining multiple pieces into one.

Why should I remodel my jewellery?

People choose to remodel jewellery for various reasons, such as:

  • Modernizing an old or outdated design (e.g., turning a vintage ring into a sleek, contemporary band).

  • Repurposing sentimental jewellery (e.g., using a grandmother’s diamond to create a new engagement ring).

  • Fixing damaged or worn-out pieces (e.g., reinforcing a delicate setting or resizing a ring).

  • Combining multiple heirlooms into one meaningful piece (e.g., merging several rings into a custom pendant).

It’s a great way to preserve sentimental value while making jewellery more wearable and aligned with personal style. Also, with the price of gold being at an all-time high, it's a great way to recycle your own gold and keep the costs down for a new piece.

How much does remodeling cost?

The cost of remodeling jewellery is based on factors such as design complexity and whether or not we need to add anymore materials.

 Here's a general overview:

  • Basic Remodeling: If you provide all necessary materials (e.g., metals and gemstones), prices typically start from $450 for a plain band with no gemstones, to around $1350 to $2000 for a piece more involved and set with your gemstones.

  • Custom Designs: For more intricate designs or when sourcing additional materials, costs can range from $500 to $5,000.

  • Stone Upgrades:

    • Small stones: $100–$300 each

    • Center diamond or Sapphire upgrades: $500–$5,000+, depending on size and cut.

  • Band Modifications:

    • Band replacement: $500–$2,000+.

    • Engraving or textured designs: $50–$200.

What materials can be remodeled?

We generally remodel pieces in yellow and rose gold (in all carats). Platinum can also be remodeled depending on the original piece.

White gold has a tendency to crack once melted so we avoid making new pieces in recycled white gold. The trade in price of second hand white gold can be offset from the cost of a new piece though.

Sterling silver can also be remodeled although the cost of reworking can exceed the cost of using fresh sterling silver.
